James Longoria, M.D., received his medical degree at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at University of California, Davis – East Bay Surgery Program and his residency in cardiovascular surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and The Children’s Hospital of Boston, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Longoria was fellowship trained in research at the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantation Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Dr. Longoria is board certified in both general and thoracic surgery by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Longoria is a Sacramento native known for bringing many new surgical techniques to the area, namely a unique minimally invasive approach to surgical ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, known as the TT-Maze procedure. Dr. Longoria’s performs the TT-Maze procedure with a scope and results in less pain, better cosmesis and a shorter hospital stay. With one of the largest experiences in the world for this technique, he is considered a leading expert in the field and is sought after to lecture and train this exciting new approach to other surgeons.
He is skilled in all facets of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and has a particular interest in minimally invasive mitral valve repair and aortic valve replacement. In addition, he performs videoassisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy for the treatment of lung cancer.
