Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute offers a variety of education programs for the community through classes to assist our patients who are coping with heart disease. The more patients know about heart disease, the more they can contribute to favorable outcomes of treatment.

Coronary Club (SMCS)
This quarterly forum provides the community with information to help make lifestyle changes for a healthier heart. Guest speakers will consist of physicians, nurses, dietitians and social counselors with strong background in cardiology. For more information call (916) 733-1789.

Heart Healthy Living Class
A free wellness and recovery class for individuals recently treated for heart disease, risk factor modifications, nutrition and cardiac rehabilitation are provided. The information is valuable whether you are trying to prevent or recover from a recent heart problem. Health Enhancement and Risk Therapy (HEART)
A supervised exercise and risk factor educational program for those individuals with cardiac risk factors. Anyone with elevated cholesterol levels, a family history of heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, sleep deprivation, obesity or history of heart of smoking can benefit from this program. The eight series class, cost $115 and is held at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. For more information, call (916) 733-1789.

Primary and Secondary Heart Disease Prevention
A free 2-hour discussion to familiarize people on the anatomy of the heart, process of heart disease, treatments available, risk factors, nutrition and exercise. For more information, call Sutter Davis Hospital at (530) 757-5122.

Taking Charge of Cholesterol
This 20-hour class, taught by a registered dietitian, is focused on helping you improve your cholesterol levels by understanding you lab results, meal planning, exercise and medications. Nutritional topics include daily meal plans, label reading, snaking and dining out, sweets, alcohol and more. The cost is $20 and a referral from your physician is necessary. Classes are offered in Sacramento, Roseville, Davis and Laguna Medical Plaza. For more information, call (916) 733-8766.

Monitored Exercise Program
This case managed program provides cardiac patients with angina, congestive heart failure, heart attack, coronary artery bypass or valve surgery with a medically monitored exercise program. Arden Fair Mall Walker Program
Sponsored by the Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute and the Arden Fair Mall, the Inside Track Mall Walker program provides a safe, temperature controlled opportunity to walk and exercise. Arden Fair Mall opens daily at 7 a.m. for mall walkers. Quarterly breakfasts in the Mall’s food court include free blood pressure screenings and guest speakers on a variety of health topics.

Smoking Cessation Program
